Kurana Conclave # 11 was founded by a group of committed Freemasons who were keen to see the Order of the Secret Monitor established on the Mornington Peninsula. Our core membership resides on the Peninsula but we have loyal members from Gippsland and several of the suburbs of Melbourne.
The name of the Conclave is thought to relate directly to the tragic aircraft crash at Mt Macedon on the 8th November 1948 when the ANA DC 3 Kurana crashed. 10 passengers were injured and 2 killed. A memorial has been erected on Mt. Macedon to commemorate this and record the bravery of the flight attendant a young woman who risked her own life to save others.
Without a doubt the name Kurana was probably chosen for this act of selfless concern for the welfare of others.
