Grand Court Philanthropic Project for 2010 - 2011 is for the 'Hear and say Centre'
Founded in 1992 by Dimity Dornan a Speech Pathologist, this Queensland wide charity teaches babies and young children with impaired hearing to HEAR, LISTEN and SPEAK using clear natural language to enable them to live, work and play in the Hearing world.
Cochlear implants help the profoundly deaf and children with severe hearing loss.
Australia's own Professor Graeme Clarke invented the cochlear implant and Australia leads the world in the supply and development of this exciting technology.
The programme is intensive, therefore expensive, costing approximately $10,000 per year per child. The Government provides 15% of funding and the remaining $2,500.000 or so must be raised through private and corporate donations, as well as fund raising events every year.
