Southern Cross Court # 3 is now a reality! Our aim now is about increasing our membership. We invite all Master Masons and women living in Horsham and District with a Masonic connection to petition for membership of Southern Cross Court and become a member of The Order of the Amaranth.

Our ritual and ceremonial is most beautiful and impressive and is based on the Royal Court of Queen Christina of Sweden of the 1600s. The Order enjoys a close fraternal tie with Freemasonry and is recognized and approved by the United Grand Lodge of Victoria.

When visiting Southern Cross Court # 3 Horsham stay over for a few days to spend time taking in the sights. Located on the banks of the Wimmera River, Horsham is the known as the capital of the Wimmera, serving as an important business and recreational centre for the entire Grampians region.

Originally opened up for grazing, the Wimmera lands became better known for wheat production and, due to this, Horsham quickly developed as a centre of economic activity for the surrounding region. Horsham is an ideal base for visiting the surrounding natural attractions, being centrally located to Mt Arapiles-Tooan State Park, Little Desert National Park and the Northern Grampians.

Be inspired by the rock climbers, as they test their skills on the world famous Mt Arapiles and capture the sunsets that can be seen on the vast flat plains of the Wimmera and the Northern Grampians. Horsham boasts one of the finest greens golf courses outside metropolitan Melbourne and is featured in the top public courses in Australia.

The photo shows a view of the Grampians from the highway that leads into Horsham while the street-scape a café in the main street of Horsham where you will find plenty of things to buy.

A New Beginning

The Inauguration Day held on Saturday the 11th August 2007 was a new beginning for Amaranth in the Wimmera District of Victoria. Southern Cross Court #3 formally Royal Adelaide Court # 1 is now a reality. Congratulations must go to all those who made the day such a success.

This new beginning just didn’t happen, thanks must go to our members from Adelaide who by their commitment and enthusiasm have led the way in such a warm and generous manner, the members from our Courts in Melbourne who were more than ready to become involved as dual members and for those local members who transferred their membership to the new Court.

The name chosen for the new Court Southern Cross Court # 3 is symbolic of the Southern Cross which is a focal point in our night sky; it is part of the Australian Flag and our national identity. In choosing this name for our new Court in Horsham our members have chosen wisely a name that will point the Court toward the future.

The Inauguration Day began with a Regular Meeting of what was Royal Adelaide Court #1 with the Initiation of the Rev’d John Watson the husband of the Royal Matron, Audrey Watson. A notice of motion was before the Court and at the appropriate time was passed by a unanimous vote to change its name. There was a little sadness about the change of name but as we thank God for the past and we are reminded that we live in the present and change was necessary but above all else as members of Amaranth we have faith in the future.

Marie Cameron, Assistant Grand Lecturer in consultation with the Royal Matron put together the Inauguration Team for the day from dedicated members from New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria; they became what one might describe as a Dream Team. Their floor work and delivery of ritual was next to perfect. Well done all who took part.

We were honoured to have our Grand Lecturer Margaret Monaghan present for her Official Visit along with Our Grand Royal Matron, Helen Wright and Grand Royal Patron Robert Lawton.

We were very privileged to have the Worthy District Grand Matron Jean Lyon and the Worthy District Grand Patron Malcolm Baker present representing our sister organisation the Order of the Eastern Star they were supported by other members of the Star who happen to be members of Amaranth too.

A very warm and encouraging welcome was extended by Worshipful Brother Ian Ballinger, P.M. of the Wimmera Lodge and Chairman of the Committee of Management of the Horsham Masonic Centre.

The Australian Broadcasting Commission broadcast an interview with the Assistant Grand Lecturer Marie Cameron over the ABC Breakfast Session for the Regional Network for Victoria and the Riverina New South Wales. The Horsham Newspaper, the Wimmera Times, sent a photographer to cover the Inauguration and will be publishing a report and photos this week.

We re keen to welcome new members into out midst and if you are not a member and would like more information phone Marie Cameron on free-call 1800 334 140 or if you wish phone 03 5988 9975 and we will phone you straight back. Likewise, e-mail enquiries will be attended to straight away.
