Charity is the capstone of our Order Our charitable work flows from our commitment to care for the welfare of others. We adopt and support a charitable project each year. This year H.L. Jan Dhu, Grand Royal Matron, would like our members and their family and friends to support 'The Breast Cancer Institute of Australia ' as her charity for the 2008/2009 Project for The Grand Court of New South Wales In Australia this year, more than 12,000 women will learn they have breast cancer. Most of them will be very concerned for the future. Their diagnosis will affect family and friends too. All of these women will receive treatments which have been proven to be safe and effective through clinical trials. Each will benefit from knowledge gained through clinical trials research spanning some 30 years. Because of this research, the majority of these women will go on to lead long and fulfilling lives following their treatment. Clinical trials are critical to improving how we treat breast cancer so that we can cure every woman, and in learning how to prevent breast cancer for all women. The Breast Cancer Institute of Australia is committed to funding the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trails Group (ANZ BCTG). The ANZ BCTG has for over 30 years conducted Australia's only national coordinated approach to breast cancer clinical trials research, bringing together more than 450 researchers in 80 leading medical institutions. We invite you to support this research. Come along to the Pink Ribbon Ball on Saturday the 23rd August - to be held at the Red Gum Function Centre, Lane Street Wentworth - Tickets $40 each for information contact the webmaster

2007 / 2008 Project H.L. Helen Wright, Grand Royal Matron for 2007 / 2008 chose 'Angel Flight' for the Grand Court Project and would like to say thank you to all who supported this wonderful service to the community. At the Grand Court Session in March 2008 cheques to the value of $8,200 were presented to representatives for 'Angel Flight' 'Angel Flight' was created to meet a real need. Often those most wanting the speed and comfort of aircraft travel are those least able to afford it. Angel Flight Australia is a charity that co-ordinates non-emergency flights for financially and medically needy people. All flights are free and may involve patients or compassionate carers travelling to or from medidcal facilities anywhere in Australia. Volunteer pilots in aircraft they own or rent, fly Angel Flight missions. They donate their flying skills and most of the expenses of each flight. Angel Flight Australia was officially launched on April 8th 2003. Since then thousands of Angel Flight missions have been accomplished helping financially needy people with kidney and liver failures, cancer, rickets, aortic stenosis, cystic fibrosis, leukaemia and more. Angel Flight has nearly 2000 pilots registered and can accept missions from and to anywhere within Australia.

AMARANTH DIABETES FOUNDATION, INC. All the members of the Amaranth are aware of the "age-old" concept, that "That Charity is truest and noblest which treads in silence and secrecy all of its ways, not letting the left hand know what the right hand doeth." To this end, the Order founded the AMARANTH DIABETES FOUNDATION, INC. to raise funds for diabetes research. All money raised is passed directly to the American Diabetes Association for specific research projects. No overhead charges are applied by the AMARANTH DIABETES FOUNDATION, INC. Gift support from Amaranth in Australia goes to the Australian Diabetes Research Foundation and is credited to the overall amount raised by the Order of the Amaranth. The Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, Inc. was established in 1979 and since then the Foundation has donated in excess of $7.5 million dollars to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Research Foundation. |
